What weight can massage tables hold?

Frequently, a massage therapist or acupuncturist will be concerned about the strength of their massage table to accommodate a wide range of clients, including pregnant women and large customers. 

Since nobody wants to have an accident during sessions, having a lovely massage table that is strong and stable enough to support customers is essential.

What is the weight limit of a massage table? 

That is an interesting question. Typically, a massage table’s handbook or instructions will provide a working weight and a static weight.   What is the difference between working and static weights?

Weight at work

Typically, we stated that the massage table could support up to 350 lbs. or 200 lbs. It is more than likely that the individual is of ordinary working weight. The working weight of a massage table is defined as the amount of weight that the table can support and the increased weight, pressure, and sideload of the massage therapist. Working weight is occasionally referred to as a safe working load (SWL) or a  normal working load (NWL). 

As technology advances and manufacturers discover better materials, the working weight capacity of massage tables increases from 250 pounds to 350 pounds at the very least presently. With superior frame designs and processing techniques to increase material strength and stability, it is quite possible to find a massage table with a working load capability of up to 500 pounds or even 800 pounds.

Static weight

The weight threshold for static weight is substantially greater than that for working weight. A portable massage table can cost up to 2000 pounds. The static weight of a massage table refers to the amount of weight that the table can support while remaining stationary. 

The static weight does not imply that you can place that much weight on a particular massage table area, and the weight is distributed equally across the table’s top.

In most cases, the four corners and the centre seam are the strongest parts of the structure, capable of bearing the most massage table weight. When your clients sit on a massage table, they will frequently sit towards the centre, along the seam. Placing several hundred pounds of weight in the centre of either half of the table would almost certainly crack the deck.

It is sufficiently strong to allow you to practice therapies. Apart from that, a wooden-framed massage table will be stronger than an aluminium-framed massage table. A regular stationary massage table often has a weight capacity that is double that of a portable type. A portable massage table is usually durable enough to be used for an extended period.
